Since I posted this, I got a few more phone calls than I normally do. It was nice, chatting with people. One of them mentioned I should have published my address in case people wanted to mail in checks rather than pay over the web, so here that is:

Apparel Technical Svcs
1149 W Picacho Drive
Las Cruces NM 88005

<i>Your book is priced at $416.19!!!!</i>
That means the $120 copy sold, that upsets me. I had a guy buy the one I put up (at $119) but I refunded him, it was just supposed to be an announcement. Under "selling conditon" in the listing, is the *only* way I can convolutedly post an announcement of more books soon and to not buy the expensive used copies people are putting up. Amazon won't change the page to say "more on the way" with the program I'm in.

You know, it pains me to see people pay that kind of money for used copies. The reality I never told anyone is that a couple years back, I stopped publishing it for awhile. I was so depressed and defeated with personal problems, that I just wanted out. The only reason I "came back" is when someone pointed out how much used books were going for and that if I really cared about DEs, then I should republish it or I was guilty of imposing unnecessary costs to people who were serious. This person guilt-tripped me back into publishing it again. I'd been off the web so long by then (3 years), that I never looked to see. I was very surprised to see I had a "following". It's been very nice, very nice to meet you all again -and all because of overpriced used copies.

Just to bring everyone else up to speed, Kathleen and I had a nice talk on the phone today when I ordered her book. She encouraged me to go ahead and ask my VERY basic questions- remember- I'm the one on the basement floor making up my own patterns. I am my sales rep, I am my sketcher, my pattern maker, my seamstress, my package deliverer. Anyway, we had an interesting conversation about language. She said artist is a bad name, so is designer- she can tell you why in a more detailed fashion but for instance- the designer image is some jerk who thinks all they do is make sketches and they're the next best thing, don't get enough credit etc. and that's only 10% of what a designer really does (I think, sorry Kathleen if I butchered your example- please correct). So the question that came to mind after I hung up the phone is - What does a designer really do? And if I'm a sewn product manufacturer b/c i'm on the basement floor doing everything- at what point do I stop doing each step and which step do I stop doing first? In what order do I start to get help? (Perhaps this is Chapter one- that's why I was afraid to post. please forgive me if it is!!) I'll be better after October 7th! He he!

<i>"One hundred years of solitude" has to be on the top of my list of favourite books - I would guess that you've read it..... after speaking of "No one writes to the colonel".</i>

I also love this site and have found it so useful. I'm a newborn designer- still in diapers with passie and have been trying to order the book, (I've had problems with Paypal). So, I'm excited about other payment and ordering options! I'm sure the book will be worth the wait.

Kathleen, I love the idea of the DVD on pattern making!

I'm sure I'm not the only reader that is cutting out patterns on a basement floor- using an artists eye and intuition to make decisions about each piece. I have no formal training for this. I don't know how it all comes together- I think it's a modern day miracle. It would be nice to know more "tricks". They would save so much time, I'm sure.

I can't enter a boutique with lots of credentials and experience- I just try to bring them beautiful things. Beautiful things sell. I try to remind myself of that. I find it hard to focus on creating. It's easy to get distracted with trying to grow and handle the business side. In the end, I just need to create. A boutique owner reminds me of the quote-- "The more naps I take, the more money I make". She says when your livelyhood relies on creativity you have to take time to rest for fresh ideas to come. I just enter the store with this spirit... But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet; tread softly because you tread on my dreams." -William Butler Yeats

Thank you, Kathleen for giving me a little more than dreams to work with. You're priceless!

Im also intrigued about the dvd. I have loads of questions. One day I will have to write them all down seeing how I have the memory of a goldfish. I also would like to say thank you for all you do to get the information out to us. I have learned so much on this site. I hope your son is feeling better.

Congrats on being out of the book. If it gives you a respite/recharge/refocus.

Hope your son is okay, my little one went off on a big adventure with her dad this afternoon, won't be back till Sunday.

Enjoy cleaning/organizing, sounds like a good idea for me too.

Hi. I have to say, I'd never think to call, because I'd worry that I'd be interrupting you from working.

I'm really loving this site, and I'm reading the book with great interest (guess I got it just in time!) This is incredibly useful information for me - my business is just at the size where we are going to have to start thinking about this stuff if we are going to expand beyond what my partner and I can do ourselves (and we have a ton of ideas so it would be great if that could happen.)

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all you do to put this information out here. Thank you so much!
