I’d meant to put these up last week. Cotton is rather pretty. The plants are in bloom. Pretty reddish, pink flowers. Larger blossoms than you’d think.
This weekend all the flowers had closed up, forming the cotton ball. I’ve noticed that all the local cotton gins have cleaned their grounds and rounded up all the cotton trucks.
I’ll follow the crop this year and tell you as the cotton is picked and processed. It’d be interesting if I could find out where the cotton from this field ended up eventually.
With the frustrations of the site being down a good portion of the day, this seems an appropriate and quiet close. How’s your week starting out?
I remember the cotton fields in Arizona. I always wanted to go into the fields after they were picked and get the leftovers just to see if I could spin it myself. I was never brave enough because the bolls are very sharp!

Cotton is rather difficult to spin by hand, it has a rather short staple, I haven’t really tried much because there are so many other things to spin. I would love to visit a mill and see the process from start to finish.

I’m looking forward to this series of posts. My forbears worked in the cotton fields and mills in Alabama.

This is so pretty… funny, I was just about to start a blog about cotton ;)
I would love to visit cottonfields one day. I am really looking forward to this series. Especially the different seasons.
My week is starting out intensely. A new contract. Commitment. Later this week my first trade show.
