Today we have a lovely challenge suggested by Katy Robinson. Because it is very similar to a past challenge and I don’t want to give it away, I’m presenting it as a reverse pattern puzzle. This means I show you the pattern pieces and you tell us what you think the product looks like.
In this case I don’t have the pattern pieces per se, only the cut fabric pieces from the pattern which is pretty much the same thing especially since its maker went to the trouble of marking the pieces and laying them out neatly. Of course I realize you can’t make much of such a small image so I’ve included a larger image file too.
I’m calling this item the Ziggurat, it’s the only idea that comes to mind.
This project got some play elsewhere on the web so if you saw it, spilling the beans would ruin all the fun. Once you’ve had time to mull it over and post links to your rendition, I’ll provide all relevant links to its maker as well as the inspirational source material the designer used.
Lastly, I appreciate the designer’s active participation in this exercise, she’s curious to see what you come up with. So have at it!
Wow, those are some pretty crazy pattern pieces. I can see some sort of bodice piece so I am hoping it’s a kind of dress, fitted bodice with an amazingly weird skirt that is all triangular and origami like, really 3D and self supporting.
It looks to me like all those zig-zag pieces fold back on themselves to make normal-looking pattern pieces. So, I’m thinking it’s an ordinary-shaped top (dress?) with lots of folds/pleats in various corners.
Shudder. When I saw the photo, all I could picture was a sample makers’ face as she saw all of those pieces!! Kudos to whoever sewed it up :)

If you look at the pieces & mentally remove the zigzag bits, you are left with what looks like a child’s dress. The zigzags are pleats, I’m guessing, that would add some pretty embellishment to the basic pattern.
This might be considered cheating, but I think it’s a pattern for a dress with diagonal shaped pleating laid on center front top and on left and right sides at the hip area.

Indeed I’ seen this method explained on the web if it is what I think it is.

Looks like a dress and Chinese lanterns morphed.
