Regarding the latest ruling on Jan 5th exempting certain natural materials, the CPSC is now asking for comments about other materials that we think could be safely exempted. We have 30 days to respond, and the request was dated yesterday, Jan 9th, so please don't delay! Keep in mind as you are making your list that the materials do not have to be known to be lead FREE, just below the 600/300 ppm limits. By looking at Jennifer Taggert's XRF test results alone, I think we can safely surmise that MANY textile materials would be known to be safe and should not require testing.

Here is the CPSC's request:
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/leadlimitsfr.pdf

Note: if you click on the email address they tell you to use, it comes up as "Secl01Determinations..." which is wrong, so be sure to type in
Sec101Determinations@cpsc.gov instead.

There is a lady there, Dr. Hatlelid, who personally replied to me twice even though she isn't the contact person on record. She even went so far as to check the inbox for Official Comments to make sure mine had gone to the right place, so I feel sure that they are really paying attention to these emails.

Miz Taggert, if you are around, maybe you could email some of your findings in all of that spare time you have?? Ha ha!!! Smile

Gosh, I pray that we are headed down the right track toward this law getting ammended until it makes some sense....

I'm not finding it either. Hmm. It could be they pulled it. I searched their site via Google; it's gone now. Maybe it's due to Obama's declaration of a stay on all pending regs so it doesn't apply anymore or until further notice?

Be that as it may and being the pack rat that I am, I have a copy of leadlimitsfr.pdf on my hard drive and have uploaded it to my server. You can access it here (pdf) but be aware it may not be valid anymore!

I'm guessing that they decided to wait until after the meetings last week to make sure that they have the opportunity to incorporate any new findings.
