I'm pretty sure I heard Kathleen this morning on NPR's Morning Edition. Here's the link to the CPSIA piece.

This is our local Des Moines IA paper. I'm pleased with the article, particuarly considering that they assigned the story (after numerous emails from me suggesting they do a story!) to a reporter who called me first, and didn't do a whole lot of research on his own. I spent several hours on the phone with him just catching him up on the basics and explaining over and over what the testing requirements were, ways that the law could be changed that would still achieve the goal but without the stupidness, etc.

The other woman quoted in the story, of course, pulled out exempting all small businesses, erg.

That hasbro quote has me cringing, though. I was trying to get him to understand the scale of economy on large runs vs small runs and I pulled Hasbro and Tickle Me Elmo out of thin air... and Hasbro doesn't make Tickle Me Elmo. *eek*

Don't feel bad, each time I was interviewd the article made me sound like a moron. They would take portions of quotes for the article that made it seem like I couldn't string 2 sentences together. I just laughed because I use to work in PR and actually would coach executives in a large corp. before they went on air with CNN, etc. or before large print interviews. I was the one sitting there telling them to rephrase their answer. And here I am sounding like a ding dong in print. Oh well. At least the articles are out there. We can focus on that victory :) LOL.

Here's a story in USAtoday about the youth motorcycle industry...all of the major manufacturers sent notices to all of their dealers telling them to pull the cycles...yet another industry that is a casualty of this ill written law.
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-02-16-motorcycleban_N.htm

what is also interesting is that they point out, probably correctly, that some parents will buy a bigger cycle for their kid...one that is NOT the correct size for them, therefore making it more dangerous...and Congress thinks we're protecting our kids with this law? hmmmmm.....

Got some airtime on Rush today. He came at it from the motorbike angle.

Also admitted that he didn't have a good handle on what it all means.

Another motorcycle article: http://www.sltrib.com/Business/ci_11734591

<P>Sounds like they don't even dare service existing motorcycles. What about kids bicycles, they would have lead in the valve stems as well....

I want to know the most current and urgent information to share with him. I have spoken to two of his aides in the past, but they were clueless.

1. I will be able to speak, briefly.
2. I will be able to give him a succinct, one-page information sheet.

What would be most effective in this limited opportunity?
