Here's the quote from Amazon today. Interesting as a quick search shows they list almost 500,000 items in toys alone (excluding Baby and apparel) . It seems a very small number - think its a token move?

Notice: Update on New Safety Legislation for Children's Products (CPSIA)
Mar 10, 2009

On March 14, 2009, Amazon.com will remove from our Toys and Baby categories approximately 2,500 ASINs for which we have not received certification of compliance with the lead and phthalates limits set by the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008 (“CPSIA”) from the manufacturer.

All merchant offers against these ASINs will be cancelled and their detail pages will be removed from our site.

At Amazon, the safety of consumers is of utmost importance. Thank you very much for your cooperation.
